Phoenix FC

Phoenix FC is LGBT and gay-friendly football team in East London, created in July 2008 to meet the needs of East and North London’s growing LGBT community. We provide a judgement -free, friendly and social environment for people who enjoy playing, or want to learn how to play, football. For us, having a good laugh at the pub after a match is just as important as who won. That being said, we’re serious about playing to the best of our ability, and developing our team and individual players as well. Forging lasting friendships and social connections while building up the LGBT sporting community is part of our mission.

Pride House Tennis Taster

Pride House joins Tower Hamlets Summer Tennis Programme for a day of fun tennis. From 11am to 6pm, no need to book, just show up!
Tower Hamlets Tennis is delivering tennis sessions suitable for adult beginners throughout the week at Victoria Park, Grove Road, Bow, London, E3.
All are welcome to come learn and practice!

For those of us who aren’t lucky enough to be going to the Games in person, there is the opportunity to visit one of the BT London Live festivals at Hyde Park and Victoria Park. These festivals will give visitors the chance to watch the Olympics on giant screens, see live music (from the likes of Blur and Snowpatrol) and try out many of the Olympic sports, including tennis. They are free to enter but the organisers will be limiting the capacity at 50,000/day which should give you an idea of the scale.

The Victoria Park festival is located beside the newly refurbished tennis courts. With the high footfall and attention on sport, Tower Hamlet Tennis will be offering their usual tennis session free to the public from Saturday 28 July through until Sunday 12 of August. This is a great opportunity for everyone to enjoy the Olympic environment and be inspired to take part in tennis sessions including Cardio Tennis and Mini Tennis.

Time
Wednesday 8 August 2012, 11am to 6pm

Venue
Victoria Park

Transport
There are several options for tube, bus and overland depending on the direction you are travelling from. The nearest overland station to the courts is Hackney Wick (10 minute walk) whilst the nearest tube stop is Mile End (20 minute walk). Many bus routes pass the Park including the 277 from Highbury and Islington and 425 from Stratford. In addition if you don’t fancy walking between the station to the courts there are Boris bikes practically on every corner which you can park up at Victoria Park.
DRIVING IS NOT RECOMMENDED.

Refreshments
There are no food outlets near the vicinity of the courts. There are however several cafes in Victoria Park Village just a short walk away on Lauriston Road. Alternatively there will be food available for purchase inside the  BT Live Site. Toilets and changing rooms are located adjacent to the courts.
